KANSAS CITY, MO – March 1st 2023, marks the first inaugural National Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the hardworking and dedicated professionals who make a difference in our communities through their work in the nonprofit sector!

Founded by former Kansas City mayor H. Roe Bartle, the mission of the Alliance is to strengthen the social sector with a talented, prepared workforce. Offering programs both online and through its network of universities and nonprofit employers, the Alliance is a leading force in creating a talent pipeline for the nonprofit sector, and has been doing so for 75 years.

“Certified Nonprofit Professionals play a critical role in addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing our communities today,” said Director of CNP Programs, Keely O’Sullivan Kurtz, MS, CNP. “We are proud to recognize the work of 11,691 dedicated CNPs and the positive impact they have on the lives of so many.”

Why March 1st?

In March 2010, the American Humanics Board of Directors moved to change the name of the organization to Nonprofit Leadership Alliance, making the relationship between the name and mission unmistakable. In the same year, the Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential was introduced. The CNP designation is the only researched and tested national nonprofit management credential in the country today.

In commemoration of the nationally recognized founding program, the Alliance is happy to claim March 1st National Certified Nonprofit Professional Day
