Well earlier this week, I posted: RT @rdearborn #SROI @kanter proving she can explain complicated ROI theories and also conquer PPT templates with humorous photos. Three minutes later, one of my Facebook friends commented: I have to be honest I never understand these status updates.

How to pitch a blogger

Nonprofit Marketing Blog

I get asked to cover different initiatives all the time here on the blog. Most of the pitches stink. They are self-aggrandizing and really hard to follow. Worse, people attach press releases and expect me to comb through a release to determine how the story is relevant to my blog—and if it is, to start from scratch writing it up. If I like the content—for example it’s a great study—I write back and ask for five bullets summarizing it.

How to Do Grand Plan Marketing 90 Days at a Time (Case Study)

Doing it right means thoughtful communications planning based on hard data and linked hand-in-hand with your organization's goals. But most of you don't do marketing planning, especially now when the changes are coming a mile a minute. What I hear back from nonprofit communicators is that there's no time, no money and so.no plan. But planning isn't a choice, it's a must ; without which you're driving blind and headed for a potentially-fatal crash.

More Tips On Using Social Media

Reaching Baby Boomers: The Next Big Demographic in Nonprofit Online Fundraising

Direct Mail acquisition is one of the most expensive ways to raise money these days. When you factor in production, printing, and postage, a simple direct mail acquisition campaign runs about $20K to reach 50,000 people. Direct Mail typically generates a 0.5% to 1% response rate for acquisition, so that “payback&# (the point at which you recover what you invested in the direct mail campaign) is taking longer and longer to achieve.

It's About Them -- Your Network -- Not Your Org, So Shape Your Mesages Accordingly

Your network (my new word of choice for your audience/base/supporters) has to be your organization's guiding light, 24/7. Because if what you do, and how you say it, doesn't interest with their interests and needs, your organization is dead in the water. (FYI -- that intersection is your brand, but that's another post.) When you craft messages, it's imperative that they resonate with your network.
