Newsletter: Let's Meet Up at EFG23 Next Month 🀝 ; Partnership Lessons from Doritos; 8 Proven Ways to Engage Wealth Advisors πŸ€‘

I'm excited to be heading back to the Engage for Good Conference next month.

It's been too long!

The EFG conferences in 2020 and 2021 were virtual, and last year's live conference fell on the same day as my daughter's graduation from college.

Boy, did I want to go last year. But family (and self-preservation 😬) always come first.

Me: "Do you think Cate will be mad if I skip her graduation and go to the Engage for Good Conference?"

Wife: "Yes."

Me: What if I attended her graduation virtually? We could Facetime?

Wife: Silence.πŸ˜‘ Shaking her head. Visible anger. Clenching fists.πŸ‘Š

Me: "I better call David and give him the bad news.

This year, I can finally return to my REAL family: David "Daddy" Hessekiel and all my corporate partnership brothahs and sistahs!

I want to meet you at EFG and am planning a special get-together. I think prizes are in order! David has even offered to help with the fun if I can draw a good crowd!

Are you excited? Me too. Here's what you need to do.

✍️ Partnership Notes

1. You could learn a thing or two about building successful partnerships from chip brand and collab king Doritos.

🀩 Tell the prospect how the partnership will "surprise and delight" their target audience.

πŸ”„ Show the prospect the overlap between your supporter base and their customer base.

🀝 Explain how your nonprofit's values align with the brand's values. (e.g., we're innovative, do what's right, support our communities, know how to make education fun, etc.)

πŸ’Ž Whether you are producing a single piece of content or putting together a sponsorship package, it has to be outstanding - meaning it's highly relevant and valuable to the audience you are trying to target.

2. Unlike solution selling, consultative selling is an "approach that focuses on creating value and trust with a prospect and exploring their needs before offering a solution." Here are seven ways to close deals with consultative sales.

3. How to build nonprofit corporate partnerships with email. Includes a template.

πŸ€‘ Marketing Your Cause

1. The headline for this graph is that 54% of adults ages 18 to 64 could not name any brands that they thought were giving back to the community.

However, my thinking on this study is different. First, 46% of adults - nearly 1 in 2 - could name a brand. Second, the research highlights that nonprofits and businesses need to do a better job promoting their charitable partnerships.

2. I talk a lot about this with my nonprofit clients. Focus on solving just one audience pain point with each piece of content. Stop trying to be everything to everyone.

😎 Cool Jobs in Cause

1. Senior Director of Corporate Engagement, Wildlife Conservation Society, NYC ($140k - $170k)

2. Director, Strategic Partnerships, Meals on Wheels America, Arlington, VA ($85k - $92k)

3. Corporate Partnerships Manager, Meals on Wheels America, Arlington, VA ($65k - $75k)

4. Associate Director Corporate Partnership Communications, Share Our Strength, Washington, DC ($97k - $110k)

🧠🍌 Brain Food

1. 8 proven ways to engage wealth advisers β€” and raise more from DAFs. #8 is key: Stay in touch in smahht ways (e.g., e-newsletter, Twitter, old-school greeting cards, etc.).

2. Gardening has made me so much more aware of the beautiful world around me. πŸ₯° How gardening can sharpen your power of attention .

3. Where does the Boston accent come from? Sadly, like monarch butterflies, icebergs, and calling the living room a "pahlah," the Boston accent is disappearing.😒 I'm a dying breed!

Speaking of Boston, The Boston Marathon, which is run by a nonprofit, the Boston Athletic Association (BAA), has a new presenting sponsor. The new sponsor replaces longtime sponsor and insurance giant John Hancock.
