Newsletter: Close More Partnerships by 'Warming Up’ Prospects 🔥; Drink Well and Give Back to the National Parks🌲; If You Own One of These Paintings You Won't Have to Fundraise Ever Again 🖼

Two housekeeping items this week... 🧹🧹

I ❤️ when you send me things to include in my newsletter! Job openings, success stories, new campaigns - keep them coming. However, here's what I'm looking to actually include in my newsletter:

First, and most importantly, I'm looking for things that will be useful to partnership professionals. I'm not just publishing news on corporate partnerships. I want to help people do their jobs better. This is the #1 goal of my newsletter.

For example, last week a subscriber sent me 10 Outstanding Nonprofit Sponsorship Request Letter Samples. It's perfect for the newsletter because it helps people do their jobs. Not surprisingly, it was the most read article last week!

Second, I'm looking for things that are interesting. You should be proud that you signed that partnership deal for a purchase-triggered donation program. But let's face it, these programs are a dime a dozen. So ask yourself before you hit that send button, If the campaign doesn't have something to teach other partnership professionals, is it at least interesting because it's different in some way?

For example, the whisky partnership with NPF I report on below is interesting because the bottles are wicked awesome and they are donating five bucks from each bottle. That's a lot.

In full honesty, what's "interesting" to me can vary from week to week. The NPF story could have easily been bumped by something I found more interesting. It just depends on the week and what I'm finding.

Sadly, some people get upset when I don't include what they sent over. Just remember that Uncle Joe still ❤️ and appreciates you.🥰

Third, I'm looking for things that are new and unique.

For example, in March I covered the first NFT cause marketing campaign. The fact that it involved toilet paper - the most prized item of 2020 - made it hilarious AND unique.

Finally, I'm always happy to post your job opening for free. My first priority are partnership positions and the marketing positions that support partnership efforts. But if I have room I will include director of development, executive director and other positions. Let me know if the position is REMOTE (because people love this option). A salary range is great too.

✅ Last week this newsletter had a 51.8% open rate and nearly 900 clickthroughs on the curated articles I shared. Those are good numbers! But only a handful of you took the survey on what we should talk about next on the hugely popular Cause Docs.

WTH.

Please, please take the survey. It's only two questions! 🙄 Thank you! 🙏

✍️ Partnership Notes

1. Check out these snazzy bottles of whiskey that are supporting the National Parks Foundation. Hey, this might be the perfect gift for mom this weekend (or for dealing with her 🙄🥴).

2. Partnership outreach in five steps. These are all really good strategies, but I really liked #2: Warm-up and engage the entire buying committee. [The article is free with registration or I can send it to you.]

3. Perhaps like you, I frequently used Hunter.io to find people's email addresses. But I've been experimenting with a site called RocketReach and have really been impressed with the results. Give it a try!

🤑 Marketing Your Cause

1. Is your nonprofit getting serious about connecting with journalists? Good! Three ways to improve your strategy: Twitter, Twitter, Twitter.

2. To market your nonprofit's audience to a company you have to know your audience. To know your audience, you have to survey your audience. Here are seven ways to improve the survey experience.

🧠🍌 Brain Food

1. Six ways to raise more money from DAFs.

2. Journalist and author Malcolm Gladwell on how post-pandemic brands have to conform to a new model of consumer expectations. ‘What is the power source for the manufacturing plant for my Tide?’

3. You could raise a ton of dough - maybe millions - for your nonprofit if you had just one of his paintings. There's no shortage of works. He painted 30,000 during his lifetime - but it's nearly impossible to get one. 🤔 Who am I talking about?
