Newsletter: You Should Adopt This Creepy Phone Tactic from Wayfair 🌚 ; Sales of Mr. Rogers’ Iconic Sweater Support Namesake’s Charity 🚂 ; The Best Charity CEO on Twitter 😎

I've written before on how to turn your homepage into a lead-generating machine. You'll need an email pop-up and a service that pings you when a company visits your site (e.g. Leadfeeder, VisitorTrack, Leadberry).

The next step is to take a page from Wayfair's playbook. There was a report earlier this month that the online retailer was making unsolicited calls to customers while they were browsing the Wayfair website. Creepy, right?

I'm not suggesting you do the same thing. Wayfair's calls are spammy and unwanted. But calling a few select people after they visit your site and/or sign-up for email updates isn't such a bad idea.

For example, when someone signs up for email updates on your website they're sending you a message: "Hey, I'm interested in your work!" Some of these people will sign-up using their business email (e.g. jane.kimball@krogers.com). Daily or weekly, you should review these sign-ups and research the ones with business emails on LinkedIn.

But don't stop there.

Pick up the phone and leave them a message. "I saw that you signed up for email updates on our website," I would say. "Is there something specific you are looking for, or can I answer a question for you?" Don't sell. Just offer to be of service to them. See what happens!

You can do the same thing with companies that visit your site (again, you'll need to subscribe to a service that tracks these visits.) You can read how I used one of these services - Leadfeeder - to track down a potential lead here.

Finding good leads is hard enough. Don't ignore the ones in plain view!

BTW, have a wonderful Thanksgiving! 🦃I'm thankful to all of you for reading my newsletter every week! 🙏
