"These are the times that try men's souls." 😱

Thomas Paine wrote these words during the American Revolution, but these days are equally trying - especially on the job front. Millions of people are out of work, and everyone I talk to is either looking for a job or working hard to keep and grow in the job they have.

The question is what is the best way for a person to stand out in a job search OR to distinguish themselves in their current job so they can continue to grow in their career?

That's why this month's learning topic is...🥁... personal branding and social impact career growth.

Here are the recommended readings: (Remember, read these or pick your own resources, but come prepared to share your insights!)

1. KNOWN: The Handbook for Building & Unleashing Your Personal Brand in the Digital Age [Book by Mark Schaefer. Buy the book locally if you can!]

2. Personal Branding – Why Now is the Time to Build Your Personal Brand [Article by Michael Brenner]

3. Personal Branding: How to Successfully Build Your Brand [Social Media Examiner podcast, September 13, 2019]

4. Dave Evans & Bill Burnett on Designing Your Work Life [Good Life Project podcast or watch this video]

The next club meeting is Thursday, October 1st at 4.pm. EDT. Join the Facebook group and sign up to participate in the meetings HERE.

✍️ Partnership Notes

1. Definitely seeing more digital fundraisers - which is great news! Now through my birthday 🥳, Chipotle guests can round-up their change to the next highest dollar amount on the app or website to support Kids In Need Foundation.

2. Congrats to Ryan Lauer and the folks at the American Farmland Trust. All this month, dairy farmer 🐮co-op Tillamook is donating 10% of sales (up to $1.6M) to AFT. Check out the partner website and watch the video.

3. If you buy an ice cream from this chain on Saturday, they'll donate a dollar to Feeding America...and Tony Robbins will match it.

🤑 Marketing Your Cause

1. The Arizona Lottery is reporting strong results aftering a marketing pivot that emphasized its giving back to local causes. And they have some advice for lotteries in your state!

😎 Cool Jobs in Cause

1. Director of Business Development, National Council on Aging, Remote ($83k - $120k)

2. Manager, Corporate & Foundation Partnerships, Operation Homefront, San Antonio, TX ($100k - $130k)

3. Corporate Relations & Marketing Manager, Hudson Guild, NYC ($60k - $63k)

🧠🍌 Brain Food

1. Why grants won't solve your nonprofit's financial problems.

2. What will replace face-to-face marketing in a post-Covid charity market? I'm kind of missing people knocking on my door asking for money (umm...not 🙄).

3. Alas, with the passing of Labor Day, this will be my last garden entry of the year.😢I hope you've enjoyed the pictures (many of you have written saying you did!). I know I've enjoyed sharing them with you.

My last garden picture is of a plant that I look forward to blooming all summer long. Sweet Autumn Clematis. It smells as beautiful as it looks!
