Last week I read a wonderfully detailed article on Hubspot called Sales Email vs. Cold Call: When to Use Each According to Data. The article was even written by a Boston guy, which increased my respect for it even more.

But then I thought, "I wonder if Dan Cohen (aka 'The King of Cause Sales') would agree with his advice?"

Heck, maybe the guy who wrote this article isn't even from Boston?? Maybe he's a Yankees fan hiding out in the 'burbs?? Brrrr.

Dan's a busy guy, but fortunately he got right back to me!

"My favorite part of this article was this sentence," said Dan: "'Rather than deciding whether to call a new prospect or send an email based on personal preference, use the method your prospect will be most responsive to.'"

Dan said he had two additional thoughts on the author's valuable information:

1. Use multiple touchpoints. For example, Dan will send an introduction email, a LinkedIn invite AND call the prospect. Of course, most of the time he'll have to leave a voice mail - but that's ok! The hope is that they're more likely to recognize Dan's name and to read his email if they've heard from him in a couple different ways.

2. Figure out what works for YOU. Dan suggesting using the author's stats as guidelines and not to follow them blindly. Test a bunch of different approaches and measure them to find out which methods yield the best results for you.

Great advice, Dan! As always, thanks for the feedback!

✍️ Partnership Notes

1. Do you have prospects in the food manufacturing space? Send them this article written by the president of Catania Oils. It's good for prospects to hear from someone besides you!

2. This is interesting. The meditation app Calm is paying the fine for tennis players opting out of 2021 Grand Slam media appearances for mental health reasons. They are also matching the fine with a $15,000 donation to charity.

3. Kudos to Boys & Girls Clubs of America. This is an impressive list of cause marketing partners for their fall back to school campaign!

4. Is it taking longer for your nonprofit to close partnerships? It's not just you.

🤑 Marketing Your Cause

1. I got more than a few emails on the article I shared last week that organizations are overlooking a huge event in donors' lives: moving. Reader and recent mover Amanda Ponzar at Community Health Charities wrote:

“I’m surprised more places didn’t hit us up when we moved. Nonprofits like Goodwill, Salvation Army and Habitat ReStore could have hit us up to donate clothing, furniture, toys as we moved....Churches could reach out inviting us to visit, or the YMCA could invite us to swim or take advantage of new local programs near us. We don’t know where anything is in our new area.”

2. Here's a marketing idea I got from this article. A lot of nonprofits have FAQ pages. Why not hire D-list celebs on Cameo to answer some of these questions? How funny would this be, and what a great way to get and keep someone's attention! The possibilities with Cameo are really endless. How about an event reminder for guests from Pee-Wee Herman?

🧠🍌 Brain Food

1. When speaking to potential donors, don't try to communicate everything about your organization. Do this instead.

2. Because of electric vehicles, gas signs are coming down on the nation's highways. This is an opportunity for nonprofits! 🤔
