Here's our first pick for the Social Impact Book ClubMegan Strand from Engage for Good and I chose Darren Walker's From Generosity to Justice: A New Gospel of Wealth.

We're really excited about this book because Darren is proposing a new, bold vision of philanthropy that is truly transformative and world-changing. That sounded good to us - and is just the kind of "meta" message we wanted to kick-off the book club.

You can download this book (or audio book) for FREE at the Ford Foundation web site.

A few questions to ask as you read this book:

1. What did you learn from the book? Did it (or did it not) change the way you viewed philanthropy? The world?

2. Beyond philanthropy, what other "systems" within our society would need to change to realize Darren's vision?

3. How is Darren's vision applicable to companies, nonprofits, and corporate partnerships?

4. Are corporate partnerships part of the solution...or part of the problem in realizing Darren's vision? If the latter, how can partnerships be changed to achieve a better, more just world?

5. Is Darren's vision really new and bold? Does it go too far, or not far enough?

We'll be having our first online book club meeting on Thursday, April 16th at 4pm EST so mark your calendar now. Details to follow!

✍️ Partnership Notes

1. Grab a favorite beverage and sit down and read this article. It has nothing to do with nonprofits, but everything to do with the tenacity and ROI-mindset you need to find and keep sponsors. Race car driver Rob Krider is my new hero! 🏁

2. The team at Carol Cone on Purpose is out with a new report called The B2B Purpose Paradox. B2B represents a huge opportunity area for corporate partnership peeps. But unlike B2Cs, which were early adopters of a purpose mindset, B2Bs are just getting started with purpose. They need our help! This report will help you make the business case.

3. We had a great webinar last week on 20 Partnership Trends to Know About in 2020. Over 135 people showed up for the live webinar! Bad news: we had a glitch with the recording so it's not available. Good news: the full report is available for download NOW at Accelerist.com[SPONSORED LINK]

πŸ€‘ Marketing Your Cause

1. More nonprofit leaders need to be influencers in their respective areas. This week, I read about a Minnesota mom who's an ice-fishing influencer and another woman who "styles" people's houseplants. In the words of one influencer: "Get out there and do it."

2. Hmmm...I may have to try this. Maybe you should too. Build your email newsletter list with a pre-optin survey.

"We're looking for cool activations for our live events, including a fast way to donate via credit card. I know DipJar is one option, but I have also seen other charities that have Apple Pay/Visa Pay where they just tap their card and then there are cool video elements. Any suggestions on companies who best activate on-site donations?"

🧠🍌 Brain Food

1. Why nonprofit events should go vegan. 🌢

2. Surprising results. How do consumers feel when companies get political.

3. John Haydon is gone, but his legacy will live on with a new fundraising book out next month. I can't wait for Donor CARE.❀️
