Leadership scholarships available supporting Sonoma County black and indigenous executives

Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) announces new scholarships for nonprofit leadership training supporting Black, Indigenous and People of Color managers and executives serving Sonoma-based organizations

Santa Rosa, CA, April 4th, 2022 – Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL) is pleased to announce new scholarships for its Learning & Leadership 2022 programs. Thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of Sonoma County, CVNL is offering a limited number of partial scholarships to Black, Indigenous and People of Color who are leaders or managers of CVNL member nonprofit organizations based in or serving Sonoma County, as well as smaller CVNL member organizations with limited budgets

CEO Linda Jacobs expressed her appreciation saying, “We are grateful to receive this timely support from the Community Foundation. It is an important step in increasing equitable access and inclusive opportunities for BIPOC nonprofit leaders in Sonoma County.”

Earlier this year CVNL announced similar scholarship funding from the Marin County Community Service Fund as well as the Peter A. and Vernice H. Gasser Foundation to support nonprofit leadership training in Marin and Napa counties, respectively.

A limited number of partial scholarship awards are available for CVNL’s cohort programs:

•Management Essentials – Summer 2022 series for new and experienced managers seeking to improve team performance.

•Excellence in Leadership – Fall 2022 series 10 session leadership development series for executives and senior leaders of nonprofit organizations.

•Leading for Equity and Inclusion – 5 session series starting in April provides a framework for workplace policies and practices that support equitable and inclusive culture.

Jacobs emphasized the importance of these scholarships. “Capacity building is so important for community-based organizations to enhance their impact. These scholarships are a great incentive to enable BIPOC nonprofit leaders and allies to make the institutional changes needed to create more inclusive organizations and enable more effective community engagement,” she said. “Representation at all levels is crucial for true engagement.”
