The doctor is in!!

I know what you're thinking, "Joe, you may know cause marketing, but there's no way I'm letting you treat my ailments."

On your physical ailments, we are in complete agreement: I can't help you.

But I can treat your complaints, issues and problems with corporate partnerships.

Admittedly, I can't do this alone. I need a colleague - a real supahstah in the field 🤩. That's why I've asked partnership guru David Giagrando to join me in the practice.

We're not real doctors, we're cause doctors (or Cause Docs!)👨🏻‍⚕️👨🏻‍⚕️.

Here's how it will work.

1. Next Thursday, September 24th at 2pm EDT, David and I are hosting an open "clinic" - No insurance needed. And no wait time! - on Zoom to address all your questions, comments and complaints on cause marketing, sponsorship and corporate partnerships.

2. You can submit questions in advance or during the clinic. Hit reply to this email to submit a question or start thinking of one for next week.

3. During the call, you'll also get to play doctor by providing your own insights and perspective to "patients'" questions. In this doctor's office, everyone gets a say (and without the dirty looks from Nurse Ratched!).

Two more points.

First, you know me, but let me tell you more about my esteemed colleague, Dr. David Giagrando. David is a legend.

  • He's been recognized by the Non-Profit Times as one of the world's best fundraisers.

  • He spent 20 years curating and leading the largest regional corporate partnership progam in New England with the Jimmy Fund.

  • He's worked with national, regional and local brands and was the mastermind behind Hyundai's national Hope on Wheels Program, Burger King's A Chance for Kids & Families, and Arbella's Official Automotive Insurance Partnership program - to name a few.

  • He's one of my idols. I've always looked up to him and admired David's work. 😊

Second, you may be wondering how we came up with the Cause Docs name. It comes from the fact that David and I both spent decades working in hospitals. We're not real docs. But we're playing the role of docs to help you build and monetize your corporate partnership programs.🩺

Are you ready for some fun, and some honest and effective prescriptions to treat your corporate partnership woes? Come and join us next Thursday! Space is limited.

✍️ Partnership Notes

1. You'll be seeing the Salvation Army's signature red kettles outside stores a lot earlier this year. Will a longer campaign mean more money for the Army? How will this impact other in-store charity campaigns this fall? 🤔

2. This is different. To mark National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in September, The Trevor Project and the popular game Animal Crossing are partnering to launch a digital clothing collection to show LGBTQ players support and love within the game.

3. It's been eight years since I published QR Codes for Dummies. But QR Codes are more omnipresent than ever. Jones Soda Company is using them for a voter registration campaign.

🤑 Marketing Your Cause

1. Yes, nostalgia is hot! As I predicted months ago, MDA is rebooting the Jerry Lewis Telethon.

2. Write your emails like mom.

3. Great recommendation from Jeremy at Wonder Tools. Have you tried Lu.ma? Jeremy says: "Luma is like evite for the Zoom era. It basically gives you a free, quick landing page for any Zoom event. It takes about a minute to make one. You just plug a Zoom link in or connect your Zoom account. It’s easy and elegant. You can even use it to charge for an event." Dress-up those Zoom pages!

Check out the Lu.ma page I created for the Cause Docs Zoom webinar.

🧠🍌 Brain Food

1. Fact: dead people give twice as much as corporations do. That's why you need a planned giving strategy.

2. 50 years ago this month Milton Friedman wrote in influential article in the New York Times arguing that the only social responsibility of business is to increase its profits. There are two articles out this week that attempt to clarify and rebut Friedman's position. One from two professors a the University of Chicago, the other from our own Carol "Mom" Cone.

3. Vote the a**holes out.
