Clooney Foundation for Justice
Emma Lindsay and David Sagal will now serve as its co-CEOs.
Both of them are lawyers. Lindsay was a partner in international arbitration at Withersworldwide, a law firm in New York. Sagal is the former general counsel at Warner Bros. Pictures.
The human-rights lawyer Amal Clooney and her husband, the actor and filmmaker George Clooney, created the foundation in 2016 to expand access to legal support for victims of human-rights violations around the world.
Google.org
Maggie Johnson will be promoted to global head and vice president of the tech giant’s charitable arm, effective February 5. She has worked at Google for 18 years, and most recently served as vice president of education and university programs.
Johnson succeeds Jacquelline Fuller, who stepped down last summer as the head of Google.org, which has given out $2 billion in cash grants and employee contributions to nonprofit groups since 2017.

National Rifle Association of America
Wayne LaPierre will step down as its executive vice president and CEO, effective January 31. LaPierre, who has led the gun-rights group since 1991, is on trial in New York, facing charges of corruption and excessive personal spending using the charity’s money.
Andrew Arulanandam, head of general operations, will step in as its interim leader.
More New CEOs
Amber Bond has been promoted from executive vice president and chief operating officer to president of the African American Alliance of CDFI CEOs. She will serve alongside Lenwood Long Sr., who will continue in his role as CEO.
Giselle Byrd, former talent-management associate at the Katz Company, is now executive director of the Theater Offensive. She will be the first Black, transgender woman to lead the regional theater company in Boston.
Alistair Dove, vice president of science and education at the Georgia Aquarium, will be the next CEO of the Museum of Science and History, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Margaret Honey has been tapped as president and CEO of the Scratch Foundation, which teaches digital skills to young people. Most recently she was president of the New York Hall of Science.
Zach Mullinax, program director of the World Press Institute’s U.S. fellowship programs, has been promoted to executive director. He succeeds David McDonald, who will remain with the organization as executive chair of its board of directors.
Sally Werner, an oncology nurse and chief experience officer at the Cancer Support Community, has been promoted to CEO.
Lusharon Wiley, vice president of corporate culture at Innisfree Hotels, has been appointed executive director of the Equity Project Alliance.
Urban Institute
The nonprofit research organization has made eight changes to its leadership team.
Mary Cunningham has been promoted from vice president for metropolitan housing and communities policy to senior vice president for research development and program management.
Jocelyn Fontaine, who was previously a senior research fellow at the Urban Institute until 2019, has returned as vice president for strategic program development. Most recently she was vice president of criminal-justice research at Arnold Ventures.
Myra Jones-Taylor, chief policy impact officer, is now senior vice president for impact and external affairs.
Kimberlyn Leary has been promoted to executive vice president. Previously she was senior vice president for research management and program development.
Yasmin Kazzaz, vice president for human resources and chief administrative officer, will now serve as chief operations officer.
Tracey Patillo Johnson has been hired as vice president for financial planning and analysis. Previously she was vice president for program operations at the World Wildlife Fund.
Janneke Ratcliffe, vice president for housing finance policy, will serve as interim vice president for metropolitan housing and communities.
Tené Traylor will step in as interim vice president of the Research to Action Lab while continuing as vice president for nonprofits and philanthropy.
Other Notable Appointments
Brian Broyles, who has served as senior vice chancellor for advancement at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville since July, has been appointed to the position permanently. He was previously its associate vice chancellor for advancement.
Amanda Clark MacMullan, senior vice president of programs and external affairs at the Massachusetts Historical Society, has been appointed vice president for institutional advancement at the Rhode Island School of Design.
James Thomas Corey has joined the University of Tulsa as vice president for university advancement and alumni engagement. He previously served as assistant vice president of development at American University.
Joanne Curry has been promoted from vice president of client success to head of client success and principal at Creative Fundraising Advisors.
Rosalind Erwin has become environment program officer at the Onion Foundation, in Auburn, Maine. She was most recently a senior program officer at the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation.
Tracy Evans is now chief philanthropy officer at the Horizons Foundation. Most recently she was the ride director of the AIDS/Lifecycle annual fundraising event in California.
Nick Goldsmith, a sustainability planner for Ithaca, N.Y., who helped develop the Ithaca Green New Deal, was hired as a program officer for the Park Foundation’s Sustainable Ithaca program.
Nataša Goronja has joined Accion as managing director of its Center for Financial Inclusion, an independent think tank that advances inclusive financial systems for marginalized people worldwide. Most recently she was senior director of programs at the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship.
Omar Guevara-Soto, assistant director of culinary and nutrition services at Minneapolis Public Schools, has been hired as strategic-initiatives officer at the Charles and Margery Barancik Foundation.
Jennifer Kryshka has been hired as the first chief operating officer at the Women’s Foundation of Florida. Most recently she was CEO of Herizon, which was previously called the Jewish Women’s Foundation.
Romana Lee-Akiyama, executive director of the Mayor’s Office of Public Engagement for the City of Philadelphia, is now senior director of institutional advancement at the Building Movement Project.
Rebecca Mandelman has been hired as the New York Community Trust’s first chief philanthropic officer. Most recently she was a consultant to national foundations and nonprofit groups.
Jodi Patkin has joined the Breast Cancer Research Foundation as chief marketing and communications officer. She was previously senior vice president of brand marketing and communications at theSkimm.
Keith Richardson, vice president of university advancement at Gwynedd Mercy University, has been named vice president of university advancement at Rider University. He graduated from Rider with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1999 and returned to earn a master’s degree in organizational leadership in 2009.
Abigail Seldin has been named chief growth officer at Scholarship America. She is the co-founder of College Abacus, an ed-tech company, and also co-founded the Civic Mapping Initiative.
Departures
Frank Dean plans to retire after nine years as president and CEO of the Yosemite Conservancy, effective this summer.
Frances Kunreuther and Sean Thomas-Breitfeld, co-executive directors of the Building Movement Project, will depart this summer. They have led the group together for 10 years.
