I don't use LinkedIn a lot, but I know a lot of you do for your partnership work. More than once people have asked me for help in this area.

๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Thankfully, I ran across someone who can help: Data scientist Christopher S. Penn. He publishes an excellent newsletter!

After doing some deep research on the machine learning that powers LinkedIn, Christopher conducted an experiment.

He asked: "What would happen if I picked one channel - LinkedIn - and did what the algorithms were looking for?"

This is what he did:

  • He pruned a lot of first degree connections that weren't relevant to his interests and with whom he never interacted.

  • He cleaned out his pending invites.

  • He posted once per day - and not even every day, he admitted - and then checked back in frequently on that post, interacting with ANY interactions he got on it.

  • He made sure to interact with at least three people's content each day.

  • He made sure to flag "I don't want to see this" on anything in his feed three times a day, 60-seconds per checkup.

  • He made sure to tag relevant people and organizations in those posts as appropriate.

The Result: An 8-10x improvement in traffic to Christopher's website from LinkedIn.

That's darn good!

You might want to give Christopher's strategy a try and direct visitors to your corporate partnership page where you should have an email signup form (obvi ๐Ÿ™„). Keep in mind that Christopher has A LOT of connections on LinkedIn so your results may vary.

Still, it's worth a shot. The time commitment is low and the return in engagement could be well worth the effort.

โœ๏ธ Partnership Notes

1. This should be interesting. Childrenโ€™s Miracle Network Hospitalsโ€™ CMO Maureen Carlson, along with SVP for Operations of Walmart, Glenda Fleming Willis, are hosting a webinar to discuss how a solid CSR strategy can help companies recruit, engage and retain staff.

2. Hmmm...should your partnership team be using webinars to recruit corporate partners? Along with case studies and email newsletters, webinars are most effective mid-funnel. What's your mid-funnel strategy?

3. BAND-AID launches a campaign to support Black nurses.

4. Ben & Jerry's unveils a new flavor for a cause. Mmmm ๐Ÿ˜‹...public safety.

๐Ÿค‘ Marketing Your Cause

1. How to use testimonials effectively on your nonprofit website (with examples!).

BTW, a testimonial in corporate partnerships is when a partner recommends or says something positive about your work together. A case study is when a partner explains how the partnership successfully addressed a problem or challenge. You need both! A testimonial is a not a case study, but case studies usually include testimonials.

2. The Harris County Public Library (HCPL) is doing a nice job building an audience on Youtube. Plus, they have Curbside Larry!

3. What HCPL ๐Ÿ‘† is doing is excellent.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ However, they need a plan to to get those Youtube visitors moved from rented land to owned land, such as a website or subscriber database. Great advice here from The Tilt - another great newsletter to read!
