Filmmakers of color play a crucial role in our cultural landscape. Their unique lens allows them to tell diverse stories, many of which would otherwise go untold. Yet, too often, they are underfunded and underresourced. People of color remain the least represented demographic in filmmaking, both on screen and behind the camera. But Color Congress is working to change that and is calling upon funders to do the same.

Years ago, I worked at a company where one of the best ways to get ahead was to talk. A lot. Being able to filibuster at a meeting or write staggeringly long emails marked you as a winner. The content of what you had to say wasn’t as important as word count. It was the best path to a vice presidency (and this company had a lot of VPs). When you incentivize something, people tend to pursue it.

Your nonprofit accounting system might not be the most exciting part of your organization, but it’s one of the most important aspects. An effective accounting system helps you stay in compliance with tax and legal regulations–helping you maintain your exempt status. However, effective accounting isn’t just about following rules. An effective nonprofit accounting system also helps your organization stay transparent, manage funds wisely, and build trust with donors and the public.

It’s spring here in the Northern Hemisphere, although in the Boston area it doesn’t feel like it right now. A lot of people use this time of the year to do some spring cleaning. I envy the people who do that because usually I’m not one of them. I know I should do more. As much as I dislike cleaning and organizing, I’m happy once it gets done. Often getting started is the hardest part.
