Newsletter: How to Grow Your Partnership Team 📈 ; Should Nonprofits Be Making More Merch? 🧢 ; What’s Behind Those Red Flag Emojis on Social Media? 🚩

The Cause Docs are back! 🩺🥼

Joining us on Thursday, October 28th at 2pm EDT are Philips McCarty and Charisse Brown Marcus from the social impact consultancy Good Scout.

Whether you are a one-person department or a team of ten, Phil and Charisse will be answering your questions on how to effectively grow your partnership team.

As your corporate partnership program grows so does the demand on internal resources. Phil and Charisse will help you determine where the most critical investments need to be, types of roles you need to plan for during the growth phase, and how better to align with other internal departments to ensure partnership success.

They'll be sharing their prescriptions on:

  • How to make the business case to your boss for expanding your team.

  • Different ways to structure your partnership team and manage internal resources.

  • The types of investments needed to create a sustainable corporate partnership department.

Both Charisse and Phil have deep experience working for and with nonprofits.

Before joining Good Scout, Charisse spent over 14 years at Make-A-Wish America, including as national director of corporate alliances.

Before founding Good Scout in 2006, Phil spent seven years at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital directing corporate alliances and played a key role in developing St. Jude's signature cause marketing program Thanks and Giving.

Charisse and Phil are supahstahs! 🤩

You're not going to want to miss this special clinic with the Cause Docs!

✍️ Partnership Notes

1. Great article on how the Atlanta Hawks are supporting the community and thinking "Beyond Basketball." “Every team should own their city like we do. Not every team does.”

2. loanDepot is donating $1,000 - up from $25 during the regular season - to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America for every RBI my Boston Red Sox earn during the American League Championship Series. The way the Red Sox are hitting, that's going to be a lot of money for the BGCA! ⚾️

3. Is this an issue for your board? You may want to address it before your local newspaper does it for you.

After the Boston Globe Spotlight Team revealed that some trustees of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute took advantage of a policy that permitted them to invest in biotech firms based on the institution’s research, Dana-Farber is barring all trustees from newly investing in or serving as a board member or executive of a company primarily created to license Dana-Farber technology.

🤑 Marketing Your Cause

1. A Children's Miracle Network scarf? A USO camo tracksuit? A National Park Foundation park ranger hat? Should nonprofits be following the lead of companies and make more merchandise for fans? 🤔 “Attention is scarce. We have to constantly raise the bar and find more creative ways to connect with our consumers.”

2. Smart curation strategy here. Ronald McDonald House Charities has a sponsored content program on The Washington Post’s site. But it isn’t using the paid space to tell stories about its nonprofit. Instead, it’s curating articles from the editorial side that tell a positive or inspiring story. Remember, your content doesn't always need to be about YOU.

3. BTW, curation is a vastly underused strategy by nonprofits. Here's how to get started.

🧠🍌 Brain Food

1. Do donors really need a receipt for their donation?

2. Are you supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Here's a great idea.

3. Have you been seeing a lot of red flag emojis on social media? Here's why.

On social media? I don't know about you, but I'm seeing red flags just about everywhere I look! 😳 🚩🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩 🚩
