Newsletter: Shell Brings Back "The Giving Pump" ⛽️ ; The Saco River Wildlife Center Newsjacked Taylor Swift 🎤 ; More Companies Step Up to Support Maui ❤️

I love sharing articles with you every week, but I also know reading them takes a lot of time! I recently came across something new from Google that should make things easier, thanks to AI!

Some of you may have this new feature on your phones right now! If not, you should have it soon. It will also be coming to desktops.

The new feature is Google’s AI-powered Search Generative Experience, or SGE for short.

If you have access to the Google app on mobile, Google will pull up a set of AI-generated “key points” from an article after you tap an icon at the bottom of the screen.

Sadly, the new feature doesn't work with paywalled articles. But no worries. Just hit reply to this email, and I'll continue to send you those articles so you can read them.

Here's how to use SGE RIGHT NOW to summarize articles in today's newsletter. This process will get more straightforward in the coming weeks!

  1. Open the Google app on your phone and type in Selfishgiving.com.

  2. On the top left of my site, click on the hamburger menu icon and then click on BLOG.

  3. Choose the newsletter you want to read and click the READ MORE link.

  4. Scroll down to the article you want to summarize and click the link.

  5. At the bottom of the page, click on the 'i" with the circle around it.

  6. You should see "Key points from the page."

I hope this makes reading the articles I curate every week easier!

✍️ Partnership Notes

1. Shell is bringing back "The Giving Pump." The fundraiser raised over $3 million last year. This year's campaign will support over 500 charities. Are you one of the lucky charities?

2. How much money can one ice cream shop raise in one day for charity?

3. Add Panda Express, Beanie Babies, and all these companies to the list of businesses supporting Maui fire relief through direct giving and cause marketing.

🤑 Marketing Your Cause

1. Brands are revisiting print marketing. Should your nonprofit consider using it?

"Print is definitely more expensive, but they are seeing a higher ROI because they can send to a more targeted group of people who are more likely to buy."

2. How the Saco River Wildlife Center newsjacked Taylor Swift and raised a quick $17,000.

3. Testimonials are almost as powerful as case studies. Here's the one question you should ask for a better testimonial from corporate partners.

😎 Cool Jobs in Cause

1. Corporate Partnerships Senior Specialist, Wounded Warrior Project, Washington, D.C.

2. Head of Business Development, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, San Diego, $220k - $290k

3. Director Program Implementation, Operation Warm, Glen Mills, PA

4. Director of Corporate Partnerships, Team4Tech, San Mateo, CA ($100k -$130k)

5. Associate Manager of Donor Relations & Partnerships, Soroptimist International of the Americas, Remote

🧠🍌 Brain Food

1. A New York Times writer is raising money to start a chain of "profit-less" restaurants. Next, read this story on the groups using lockers to feed their community.

2. Is it cheaper to refuel your EV battery or gas tank? The Washington Post did the math in all 50 states. I have to admit, I just leased a new car and didn't even consider choosing an electric one. I'm just not there yet.

3. During the 2022 baseball season, a man - a New York Yankees fan, no less 🙄 - turned his hot dog into a straw to drink his beer. The rest is history. Now you can buy Oscar Mayer hot dog straws. 🌭🥤
