Welcome Adiza Hamda, our new Public Policy Intern

We’re excited to welcome Adiza Hamda our new public policy intern for Tennessee Nonprofit Network!

Adiza is passionate about policy and advocacy, housing affordability, community development, and creating equitable, inclusive, and cost-effective solutions to long-standing societal problems. Her long-term goal is to contribute her skills and knowledge towards ameliorating pervasive social challenges and improving the quality of life of the human race. As a Public Policy & Advocacy Intern at Tennessee Nonprofit Network, Adiza works closely with the staff to identify and analyze policies impacting area nonprofits, and to enhance their operations and impact. She is also responsible for designing a comprehensive legislative guidebook for partner organizations.

Adiza is an MPA candidate at University of Memphis.

Why are you excited to work for Momentum Nonprofit Partners?

I am excited to work for Tennessee Nonprofit Network because I am passionate about serving people and communities and TNA’s mission aligns with my goals of contributing to positive change in society. I love collaborating with its dynamic team and leveraging my skills to make a meaningful impact on the nonprofit sector and the communities it serves.

What is one of your favorite moments in your nonprofit career?

One of my favorite moments in my nonprofit career was leading the development of a Youth Leadership Development Framework for Vitalant, which resulted in a remarkable increase in youth participation. It was rewarding to see my efforts translate into tangible positive outcomes and to engage young people in a cause I am passionate about.

Why did you choose a career in the nonprofit sector?

I chose a career in the nonprofit sector because I am committed to making a significant impact on society, and the nonprofit sector offers a unique opportunity for addressing various pressing social issues and creating positive change. I believe that by working in this sector, I can make informed solutions that improve the quality of life for individuals and communities.

What are some of the biggest challenges you think the nonprofit sector is facing right now?

One of the significant challenges the nonprofit sector faces is the need to navigate complex policy and regulatory environments. Additionally, the sector must address the increasing demand for services while contending with limited resources.

What’s one thing you’ve learned that will help you in your current role?

From my experience as a Public Policy & Advocacy Intern at Tennessee Nonprofit Network, I have learned the importance of in-depth policy analysis, effective advocacy, and communication in advancing the goals of nonprofit organizations. This knowledge is valuable in my current role, enabling me to contribute to TNA’s mission effectively.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a new employee in the nonprofit sector?

To succeed in the nonprofit sector, I would advise a new hire to stay flexible, be receptive to change and innovation, and to recognize that the nonprofit landscape is ever evolving. Making a lasting impression also requires collaborating and forming strong bonds with partners and stakeholders.

If a movie studio was going to feature your story as a nonprofit employee in a movie, what would the movie be called and why?

The movie would be called Change Catalyst: Adiza's Journey in Nonprofits. This title reflects my passion for catalyzing positive change and the transformative impact I aspire to have on the nonprofit sector and the communities it serves.

Where is your favorite restaurant spot in Memphis?

My favorite restaurant spot in Memphis is P.F Chángs.

What are some of your favorite movies?

Some of my favorite movies include The Notebook, and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. These films have left a lasting impression on me due to their compelling storytelling and thought-provoking themes.

What are you reading right now?

Currently, I am reading The Injustice of Place. It is an insightful book that aligns with my interests in housing, public policy and community development and provides a background on the socio-economic history of Appalachia.

What I love most about Tennessee Nonprofit Network is its commitment to immensely contributing to the nonprofit sector. TNN’s dedication to supporting and strengthening nonprofits, along with its collaborative approach, is inspiring. I am excited to be part of a team that shares my passion for making a difference.
