When many entrepreneurs, small business owners and even experienced marketers in larger organizations think of the term “brand” they think of pretty colors, expensive logos, fancy graphics, Facebook cover photos, Pinterest boards and traditional tv or radio advertisements. Smart marketers know branding is much more than a logo. In reality, the logo is the easy part and only one small yet very important component of your brand.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos set the nonprofit world ablaze earlier this month by tweeting a “request for ideas” about how to direct his charitable giving. Not surprisingly, Bezos’ unusual public request has drawn massive media coverage, in addition to more than 42,000 replies on Twitter. It also offers a great opportunity to talk about ‘ newsjacking ‘ — the public relations practice of using a hot item in the news to help generate media coverage for your organiz
It’s summer, yea! Those of us who live in colder climates relish these few months of warmer weather, a slower pace, and a vacation to someplace fun. While I hope you get a chance to slow down and take a vacation this summer, that doesn’t mean everything in your organization has to come to a screeching halt. In fact, summer is a great time to tackle a few projects and get ready for a busy fall.

Youth belonging to Generation Z were born in and after 1998. The oldest of Gen Zs are currently entering college and finishing high school. Raised by predominantly by Gen Xers who were pummeled by the Great Recession, early research about those belonging to Gen Z indicates that they are cautious about spending money, are bargain shoppers, and more likely to save than to spend.
Just about every week, I talk to nonprofit communications directors who have “limiting beliefs” that are holding them back. Limiting beliefs are ideas or assumptions that you have about yourself, your situation, or others that limit your ability to succeed. But limiting beliefs are just that: beliefs. They are not indisputable facts, and they are often flat-out wrong.
The long Fourth of July weekend is getting underway here in the U.S. as Americans head for beaches, barbeques, parades and fireworks to celebrate Independence Day. Agitator readers North of the border will mark Canada Day tomorrow and in two weeks our French readers will celebrate Bastille Day. Regardless of where we live it seems to me that this year we all should be devoting some quiet, thoughtful time to thinking about the increasingly complex, interwoven world we now find ourselves in.

Getting that perfect grant can be a make or break situation for a startup nonprofit. When Nonprofit Hub was at its beginning, we were lucky enough to receive a grant that helped us get our feet on solid ground. But that was because of a relationship I had built with the organization over several years’ time and they trusted me to do good with their money.
If you don’t know where you are going, you will never get there. Here’s how to start with the end in mind so you can be resolute in finding the best fitting job for you and your dreams. First, dream. Grab a pen and a blank sheet of paper, sit in a quiet room and write everything down about what you believe would be your perfect job. Think about the mission you’d like to be involved in, the kinds of people you want surrounding you, the type of boss you want, the hours, the pay&#

Yesterday I explored ‘vanity metrics’ and briefly explained why they’re not very helpful for serious decision-making. Or how, in the case of Benchmarking, they’re often ignored or mis-applied. Today, we’ll move to metrics that truly matter. By my definition an important metric – a metric that matters – is one that triggers the “What-should-I-do-differently-to-improve?

For many nonprofit organizations and NGOs, managing grants and monitoring projects with spreadsheets and manual processes feels familiar—but is it holding your organization back? As funding requirements become more complex and stakeholder expectations for transparency grow, relying on outdated methods can lead to inefficiencies, missed opportunities, and compliance risks.
Online fundraising garners millions in charitable giving for the nonprofit industry every year, but with so many options, it can be difficult to find the right online donation tools for your organization. To make the buying process a little less intimidating, here are some of our favorite online donation tools: Fundly. Qgiv. Razoo. @Pay. Network For Good’s DonateNow.
1. Dialogue. Major donors expect to be able to have a dialogue with an organization and its staff. 2. Permission. Major donors expect to maintain power over whether or not they grant permission for dialogue to happen. 3. Convenience. Major donors expect their engagements to be convenient for them. 4. Focus. Major donors expect you to focus on them (be relevant and provide value that suits their needs and desires). 5.

Motivation. We all have it, we all lack it at times. There’s a trick to stimulating motivation among your employees and volunteers. Employees and volunteers are equally as important as donors when it comes to a nonprofit. These people are the lifeblood of your organization. Winning an employee or volunteer over to your cause is just the start. Your nonprofit can grow by leaps and bounds and create brand champions from within its walls by appreciating, celebrating and acknowledging all the good y

Time spent (minutes per month) on websites was down across all industries in the U.S. in 2016, according to an Adobe report. “Despite time spent being down, visit rates are up 4% year-over-year across all industries,” CMO Adobe wrote. To stay ahead, finance leaders must leverage a future-forward approach—one that leverages real-time data, predictive analytics, and continuous planning to drive smarter financial decisions.
We leaders are busy people facing multiple demands. Although we know the saying, “leaders are readers,” too often, reading dropped from our schedules. It feels like a luxury we can’t afford. Especially reading fiction. But fiction may be just what leaders need to excel. In a recent EntreLeadership podcast, host Ken Coleman interviews Shawn Stevenson […].
