Though ecologically and culturally rich, the county ranks in the bottom eighth in California for per-capita income. But for both of us, this place, where the redwoods meet the sea was home, the community where we were each raising a daughter (both with the nickname Ani). Efforts to make change could be seen by many as threatening.
