Additionally, millions of Americans reside in manufactured housing communities, often called mobile home parks, which do provide affordable housing. Yet when Gadiel Galvez and his fellow, primarily Latinx, residents of a manufactured housing community sought to own the land underneath their homes, they opted to use an LEC structure.
An underappreciated tool for closing this gap—potentially benefitting millions of US households—involves resident-owned manufactured housing communities. A Freddie Mac Multifamily survey conducted in 2019 estimated 45,000 manufactured housing communities operating across the United States.
