In the 1960s, the construction of interstate highway I-76 and state Route 59 disconnected Summit Lake from the rest of Akron. This was one of many such projects that displaced hundreds of thousands of Black Americans nationwide. All these popular amenities and activities were conceived and constructed in close collaboration with residents.
