Monthly giving is a great way to raise additional revenue and boost your retention rate. If you don’t have a monthly giving program, start one now. How to Create a Monthly Giving Program for Your Nonprofit. Many organizations do have a monthly or recurring giving option, which is great. What’s not great are some of the mistakes I see nonprofits making with their monthly giving.
Facebook recently announced some big changes coming to their newsfeed algorithm that impacts brands of all sizes. As the social ecosystem of “experts” broke down, blogged about, and summarized their thoughts on these changes, what surprised me the most was how many marketers that claim to be experts in this space were shocked to see these changes.
Today on CauseTalk Radio Megan and I talk to Jennifer Herskind , Chief Marketing Officer for Smoothie King , about a new partnership with Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) , a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with physical challenges lead active, healthy lifestyles. This session will walk you through how one CEO used generative AI, workflow automation, and sales personalization to transform an entire security company—then built the Zero to Strategy framework that other mid-market leaders are now using to unlock 3.5x ROI. As a business executive, you’ll learn how to assess AI opportunities in your business, drive adoption across teams, and overcome internal resource constraints—without hiring a single data scientist.
Earlier this month, I put a call out to nonprofits communicators asking them what worked for their organization on Facebook in 2017. A tactic or tool that they would use again in 2018. A day later, Facebook Zero happened. The world’s most popular social networking site announced major changes to its newsfeed algorithm, changes that would see most nonprofits organic page reach plummet even further.
Any discussion of metrics in The Agitator must include a nod to “ The Curse of Fundraising Innumeracy ” about an Agitator reader who tried to keep a straight face when someone said they had a 95% retention rate. And clearly there is a problem when otherwise smart people with big budgets don’t “do” numbers. But I’d like to talk about something else today that I’m guessing bedevils many an Agitator reader: you are numerate, but you report to someone who isn’t.
Behind every great nonprofit is a great group of people who make it all happen. For all the grants you apply for and donations you receive, there’s a single contributor who invested their own time and money into funding your mission. At the root of your nonprofit is achieving that mission, and loyal donors who contribute major gifts are there to help you.

Before you send me angry responses to this headline, know these two things first: What I’ve written is NOT coming just from me. I gathered this list after hearing what 5 different leaders in the sector told me. (Note: None of them wanted to be listed in this article. Maybe the headline had something to do with that.). Also, I DO believe that wealth information is valuable.

“Fundraisers always prosper when they focus less on the money. that people send in and more on the people who are sending it. As a. fundraiser, you’ll get better at your job and get more out of life when . you deliver what your donors want rather than chasing after what. you want for yourself or your cause.”. . –Ken Burnett.

For many nonprofit organizations and NGOs, managing grants and monitoring projects with spreadsheets and manual processes feels familiar—but is it holding your organization back? As funding requirements become more complex and stakeholder expectations for transparency grow, relying on outdated methods can lead to inefficiencies, missed opportunities, and compliance risks.
A true story. I was talking to one of our customers two weeks ago. She had been working for an organization for almost two and a half years and she said, “You know, I think over time I must have met with about 100 people. But I don’t think even 2 or 3 were really, really, really highly qualified.”. She continued saying, “Most of them love us. They adore our staff.
Gerard Miller. Last October, Kivi presented a webinar on thank you videos. Today’s guest, Gerard Miller, attended that webinar and sent a sweet email thanking us for the presentation. (He’s really good at thanking people!) He also sent the thank you video his organization, SwimRVA, produced and I asked him to share their creation process with you.
What would you do with $20,447,633,199.37? Fund a new program? Hire more staff? Buy that new database software you desperately need? Our team here at Fundraising Report Card has $20,447,633,199.37 and we decided not to buy anything with it. Instead, we wrote some complex algorithms and made a free website to talk about nonprofit fundraising … Continue reading "New Year, New Benchmarks: How Does Your Organization Stack Up?".
Yes, demographics are the second-best way to segment. The best way, however, is literally almost any other way. Take, for example, the experience of Todd Yellin, Netflix’s VP of Product Innovation. Netflix has one of the great treasure troves of data out there. What does he use? Quote: “There’s a mountain of data that we have at our disposal. That mountain is composed of two things.

I’m going to repeat what might now be cliché. You’ve heard this before. But you’ve got to let it sink in. Then act on it. Here it goes, because truth is like medicine. It tastes bad going down. But it cures! …Needle hitting vinyl. If you reach out to the right people at the right time with the right message, they’ll be receptive to you and your outreach.
Recently, when one of our clients faced an unexpected problem, my business partner, Scott Westcott, offered a rather unexpected anecdote to help them navigate the solution. The story came from a years-ago charter fishing trip on Lake Erie with a crew that couldn’t seem to avoid trouble. Before it even got off the dock, their boat had a minor mechanical problem that delayed departure.
On January 30, 2018 Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, will present the 96th in-person State of the Union Address. For days before, the day of, and for days after the hashtag #SOTU will be a top trending topic on Twitter. With online and offline activism at unprecedented levels, this year’s State of the Union is likely to attract large online and broadcast audiences.
I’ve been reading The Agitator for years (part of why it’s been such a pleasure to write for this august blog). But I have a confession to make. Every time I saw posts like More On Millennials: 6 Ways To Entice Them and Time To Take Notice Of Millennials? , I wasn’t buying. To clarify, I don’t think we should ignore Millennials. Generational dynamics are like Max Planck’s comment about science: it advances one funeral at a time.
Traditional budgeting and forecasting methods can no longer keep pace with today’s rapidly evolving business environment. Static budgets, rigid annual forecasts, and outdated financial models limit an organization’s ability to adapt to market shifts and economic uncertainty. To stay ahead, finance leaders must leverage a future-forward approach—one that leverages real-time data, predictive analytics, and continuous planning to drive smarter financial decisions.
On today’s episode we continue our discussion on phone calls. The big topic this week is why fundraisers are afraid to call major donors. Make sure to listen to the season 1 finale for the first part of this discussion. The post Why Fundraisers Won’t Call Major Donors (EF-S02-E02) appeared first on MarketSmart, LLC |.
“Wait!”, I hear you cry. “You rail against segmentations that aren’t predictive. But transactional RFM segmentation is not a bad predictor.”. And I will stipulate that: A person will tend to give the amounts that they have given in the past. A current donor is more likely to give than a lapsed donor.
