The resulting public health response is to “close the gap” and aim to level the rates of Black maternal and infant outcomes to match those of the white population. We refuse to accept highly medicalized birth and the racial redlining of midwifery. Our ancestors’ refusal to accept what is not right and not just led us to freedom.
