Fisheries and Stewardship: Lessons from Native Hawaiian Aquaculture

There are many lessons to be learned from Indigenous aquaculture practices, especially in the areas of climate mitigation, adaptation, resilience, resource management, and food sovereignty. Ironically, an estimated 85 to 90 percent of the food eaten in Hawai‘i comes in on a ship or barge. 4 (See Figure 1.).
